What's up, Demi-squad?

As fans of Demi-God, we have to assume you're also fans of Demi-God artist and Ominous art director Andy Smith. Because really, who among us isn't? 

Well, our pal Andy has been running a Kickstarter campaign for his creative dream project, 1stMan, which he's working to remaster, bring back to life, and complete after its initial Image Comics debut in the early nineties. 

1stMan is Andy's lifelong dream project. Let's hear about it, straight from the horse's mouth! Take it away, Andy!

"There are 7 days left in the campaign and I'd love for you to help bring it to life! 

Harkening back to the silver-age of Marvel and DC Comics, this return of 1stMan is fast-paced, action-packed, character-driven fun!

Wait, what?! You never read the original adventure of 1stMan? Don't sweat it, I'll fill you in.

 1stMan is the story of Luke Henry, a freshman in college that is chosen to carry on the last Essence of the 10. 

There are 10 powerful Essences scattered across the universe, each inhabiting a being on different planets. If the being dies, the Essence will search out another worthy vessel. If somehow, all 10 essences were collected into one single being, that being would become the most powerful force in the Universe, a virtually unstoppable force.

Once Luke gains that power, he can change into Apollo, the 1stMan! What, you still need more? OK, fine...

Monarch, the larger-than-life, power-hungry villain of this story, has collected 9 of the essences of the 10 by destroying the worlds they inhabited. He now has his sights set on the last one. Monarch travels to the world inhabited by the 10th essence, only to see it escape his grasp and find a worthy being to protect it and contain its power: 1stMan! 

But 1stMan isn't the only character in this tale. Penumbra is the last survivor of one of the worlds destroyed by Monarch. She's a femme fatale, not an ally of 1stMan so much as she is concerned with self-preservation. Her main goal is to stop Monarch from gaining the 10th Essence. Once he wields the power of the Ten, Monarch will be unstoppable."

Where are they now?

Hey, Demi-Gods!

There are two things we love here at the Ominous Press/Creation.Ink compound: comic books and our backers. Lately, we've been discussing ways to keep in more regular touch with our backers, ways that don't feel "spammy," like we're always trying to sell you guys something. 

The problem is that there's always cool stuff percolating in the hopper here. For instance, right now, you may have heard we're celebrating the 25th anniversary of Ominous with this campaign, which Demi-God creators Ron, Andy, Bart and colorist Mike Atiyeh are all involved in, one way or another. So why not tell you Demi-God backers about it? You see our dilemma, it's a tough nut to crack, right?

Long story short, we decided we'd hit you up with some "WHERE ARE THEY NOW" updates letting you know what some of the talent behind these projects are up to these days, starting with Andy (don't call him Andrew) Smith.

Aside from art directing the various Ominous Projects and creators, Andy has turned his attention away from "Big 2" work and is focusing on creator-owned projects that express more of his own sensibilities of what story and art should be. 

The first project Andy launched, old school flipbook-style, was Jungle Lords/Ultra. Two super-fun, separate stories in one oversized comic. That project will be fulfilling very soon and, in the meantime, our plucky Mr. Smith has been preparing to return to his first love (or should I say 1stlove), 1stMan.

1stMan is a character Andy created when he was still a young boy dreaming of a big career in comics. Back in the 90's, that dream came true when Image published the first issue of 1stMan but, due to sales on the book and Andy's lack of time (at the time).

But now, the Man Of Firsts is on his way back!

Andy has put a ton of energy into "remastering" the existing 1stMan material and, finally, finishing the story. He's launching early next week so if you're interested in supporting his new project, keep an eye on his social media for more details.

What's up, Demi-squad?

We've got some heavenly news for you this morning: Demi-God: The Complete Series has arrived from the printers! Take a look for yourselves, the books are just as handsome as Demi-God likes to think he is (spoiler alert: he's not). 

So, what happens now? Well, first off, if you haven't filled out your survey yet, it would be a good time to jump all over that task. Virginia, our fulfillment manager, and Kim, our demi-goddess, will be collating all that info shortly as we move into what we like to call the, "get the books and rewards to the backers as fast as possible" phase of the campaign.

So hang in there. Demi-God: The Complete Series will be brightening up your lives before you know it. We expect all packages to be shipped and in your hands by the end of the month. However...

As you may have noticed, mail service is a bit erratic due to the pandemic; it may take a little longer than usual for your packages to reach you after they're sent out. It also may not.
